Lots to Report

It's a big week for Ty...first games, Meet the Players Night dinner...lots of exciting things!

Jen Schaat helped me with Shay and Raleigh last night so I could go help Ty. I brought Kysa. It turned out great once we got through a couple near catastrophes such as Texas Roadhouse only having half of our order ready on time. But it all worked out and was a memorable night. Ty did a good job as always and the kids gave away a lot of neat Skyline gear. I think they netted around 4500, and they will be able to give the Edwards family around 1500 minimum. We will continue to raise money for them.

Emmett spoke for a minute and was really emotional. The boys stood up and gave him a standing ovation.

I brought Kysa with me and various people helped me with her, including Alison Frei, Emmett, Kass, Troy Deane, the Facer boys, and a mom that worked with Ty in the concession stand at one of the football games. I brought her because I didn't want to overwhelm Jen and because she had a cough, and today she was a lot worse. she did the breathing treatment three times...but she's just not feeling well. Poor girl. I might take her to the doctor today.

I am starting my Body for Life today. Turning point has come. Joel Bate called from CSI about playing in some games this weekend against CEU, North Idaho, and CSI on an All-Star team. Well unfortunately i'm not much of an all-star right now. NEXT YEAR!

I'm going to ask joel if he could schedule something like this for next year and we'll put a team in. Me, Sharee, Cady, Shelby, Emily, Lisa, Jill, and Claire Bodensteiner if we can get her back from England. Or something like that. It would be so fun.

Dad made a good point that a lot of the people that would be good to play like Allison Pincock CAN'T play in something like that because they are coaching.

Anyway, I was really sad that I couldn't go play, to the point that I cried. I just realize how much I miss it and what a special time that was.

so I'm doing BFL and I'm going to get in the kind of shape I want to be in.

I may record my progress on my blog...it's a private blog so I think I'd be okay with that.

Shay is growing up so fast. She's been saying lots of different sounds. Na Na Na and DOWN were two things she said today. I think she understands a lot.

Kysa said, 'that's gross" when Ty came out of the bathroom after he got home tonight. It was funny.

Raleigh is a good helper most of the time. honestly, I don't know what i'd do without him sometimes. He never hesitates when he knows I really need his help.

I did my visiting teaching tonight--but it was really just a girls night out with friends. Went with Jen, Natalie Adams, Amy Saylor who used to be a do not contact on my list but is now my partner. We at at Bajio and it was good. I laughed a lot. Jen is a good friend. Natalie is so sweet, and Amy, well, she has the most amazing diamond ring I've ever seen. I mean, I got emotional looking at it. It's like a 30,000 ring. unbelievable. I never thought I'd want anything like that, but looking at it, well, I still wouldn't want the responsibility of having something like that, but I can see why people go crazy for diamonds.

Trent came over to talk to Ty before the first game tomorrow. He's a good man, and a good friend to Ty.

I'm so lucky to have good friends.

Jamboree

Ty's teams played in a jamboree tonight with West J and South Fremont. They did well, winning all quarters except the first against South, which they lost 9-8. The JV team played really tough defense and pushed the ball. I hauled the kids out and missed the first couple quarters, but I was glad I went because I was able to get good pictures of the kids in their jerseys for a slideshow for the fundraiser dinner on Monday.

I am so thankful Nancy Wallis is heading that up so I don't have to stress about it this year.

Shay has been saying "mama" the last couple of days. And I'm pretty sure she was saying "more" when I was feeding her applesauce tonight. It sounded different than mom and she was saying it between every bite. That little sweetie can eat! She struggled for awhile because she would push the food back out with her tongue, but she's way past that stage now. She has been my worst eater, but no more. She's picking up where Kysa left off at this age.

Kysa is so funny right now. She has the best "jabbertalkie" ever. We need to get her on tape more doing her jibber jabber. We call Grandma Ro quite frequently because Kysa likes to talk to her. She can say a ton of words, but when she starts spewing out the sentences, nobody can keep up with her.

Raleigh had a check up today with Dr. Groberg and was over 90th percentile weight and height. He had to get shots, and oh man, was that traumatic. He was screaming way before the nurses even touched him. Then tonight he kept asking me questions about when he had to get shots again, and kept saying he didn't want them again. I don't know how to handle him--I think most of the time I take the "suck it up, Raleigh" approach. I'm not the most sympathetic mom, and I don't know if that makes it worse or if that's what he needs. All I know is that Kysa has shown a much higher pain tolerance than Raleigh demonstrated at that age, and now.

Ty has practice at Apple in the morning because the water line at Skyline broke today (and the kids got out of school early because of it.) Then we'll probably spent a few hours cleaning and doing laundry before we head to Paul.

Raleigh's friend Holden Schaat and his brother Henry and sister Hope are coming over from around 10 to Noon as well, since Jen and Eric both have to work and they are out of school. Raleigh is looking forward to that.

Yesterday was WAY fun as I went to Rexburg with the kids and we hung out with Niki, Sara Jane, Sharee, and Coach Woodland.

Kysa's First Prayer

Kysa said prayers tonight—she did a great job repeating what I said in her little “jabbertalkie” as Grandma Rue calls it. She thanked Heavenly Father for “Raw-wee”, “Shay Shay”, “my daddy”, and “mommy”. And of course she clapped after she says “men”.

We went by the river around noon today and there were lots of ducks and geese. She was right in the middle of them. She was so mad when we had to leave. She let me hear it.

Shay is climbing up on EVERYTHING. She’s got two more teeth coming in on top and has been a little grumpy. She LOVED jumping in the Johnny Jump-Up tonight. We should have let her try it sooner, just didn’t think about it. Of course Kysa wants turns too.

Raleigh has one more swimming lesson this session and is doing really well. He can do a few strokes of freestyle, of course he doesn’t know how to breathe, but he’s improving all the time. He is also doing better at basketball. My friend Rebecca said, “Do you just work with him all the time? He’s such a good dribbler!” He has been in the top two or three in “dribble tag” at his Apple basketball clinic on Thursdays and is very proud of that. He told me when he went to Ty’s games at the Rec Center, “I just dribble. I don’t even SHOOT!”

Oh, and he kicked my butt at Mancala 3 out of 4 times last night. Seriously, I was trying to beat him. I was kind of mad the third time. All those times playing with Grandma Ro must be paying off. I might have to come get some lessons from her (or Ty) so I don’t keep getting beat by a five year old!

Busy October, Birthdays, Minico Football, Bathroom Escape

Man, it feels good to have October over with. Don't get me wrong--it's my favorite month. But that last week was BUSY! With mom's surgery on October 26th, my birthday and Raleigh's five year old birthday, Halloween activities including the party at Shane and Nancy's house with all the Shippens and the Snake River Landing Trick or Treat event, finishing my finance class and CORE class for my real estate continuing ed and broker's license...let's just say I feel some relief. Thank goodness Ty took the kids out to Sue's and she watched them on Monday for me so I could take my tests. I would have been up a creek without that day to get everything done.



Right now I'm finishing up the first draft for our commercial real estate article for Prospectus. Once that's done, then I'll really be able to take a breath. A little one anyway.



Raleigh had a rough night on Friday as we went to Pocatello to watch the showdown been undefeated Minico and undefeated Blackfoot. Blackfoot pulled it out in a game that Minico could easily have won--it was such an exciting game, but since we didn't end up on top, I was literally sick about it. I couldn't imagine how it felt for the parents, players, and coaches. Minico had such an awesome team and they were fun to watch.

This is what Coach Perrigot had to say..."“I’m so proud of these kids,” “They’ve done more for Minico football than any team in history.”

I agree wholeheartedly. It was amazing how the community came out to support that team.

I was very sad it was over...but back to Raleigh. After the game, there was such a bottleneck to get out of the Holt Arena parking lot that Ty took Kysa and Raleigh to play on the playground on the east end of the parking lot. I went back into Holt with Shay to go to the bathroom and make her a bottle, and Ty called me on my cell to tell me to get back out there because Raleigh had fallen and knocked his teeth out. It was pretty traumatic for Raleigh and his dad...poor kid, now he's lost two baby teeth, with one more that might fall out anytime. (He knocked out one when he tripped at Grandma Sue's house and hit the couch when he was three!) This time he had tripped going up the stairs, and since it was cold he had his hands in his pocket so he couldn't catch himself. Ty said he hit the first step. So it wasn't really something Ty could have prevented. Isn't that usually the case though! He was pretty distraught for the first 15 minutes, but calmed down on the way home and has handled it very well since. Grandpa Jer-Bear came out and tried to help comfort him. He could offer some advice since he knocked out his PERMANENT front teeth roller skating or something when he was a kid. I guess life goes on...for Raleigh and for Minico!




I have to add that i am very relieved that mom is feeling better. I don't think her back is perfect, but she's way better off than before the surgery, and I just pray that she'll continue to improve. I'm hopeful she'll feel good so we can come to Thanksgiving at her house.

This picture to the left was taken of the girls with Aunt Claire at my great Aunt Barbara Hodge's funeral. I have such cool aunts. Aunt Claire stopped at our house on HER birthday and brought us an apple pie. It was fun to sit and visit with her. She's always doing nice things for us when she gets a chance.

Raleigh had an interesting experience with bullying at church today. He went to the bathroom during primary, and a ten year old boy in our ward decided it would be funny to hold the bathroom door stall shut so Raleigh couldn't get out. Raleigh ended up crawling underneath the stall and making it back to his class He was a little shaken up and told his teacher what had happened. We found out about it after church when the primary president called, and the boy came over to our house with his mom and apologized. I think he was genuinely sorry. But it made me worry about what else could happen to an unsupervised 5 year old in a bathroom stall. We had a talk with Raleigh about not going to the bathroom by himself, and he said, "that's like the rules at my preschool." Apple has been good about safety with the kids on their bathroom breaks. So we told Raleigh that the Apple rules apply everywhere. Just not something that we've thought about--bathroom safety at church. UGHHHH!


I helped in the nursery today and Kysa had a great time during singing time, as always. She's quite the little dancer. She doesn't really sing, but LOVES to do the actions to songs like "Popcorn Popping", "Once there was a Snowman", and "The Wheels on the Bus".
