Bear Lake Vacation

We had a blast this week in Bear Lake. We stayed at the KOA on Wednesday
night with our friends Ty and Holly Haguewood in their awesome camper, and
then went on a bike ride and played at the beach on Thursday. The Shippen
family arrived Thursday evening for our annual reunion. We stayed two more
nights at Harbor Village and enjoyed boating, jetskiing, and playing in the
sand.

Kickin' Ky

Gramma Rue and Kysa

Kirb snapped this picture with her cell phone camera a couple of weeks ago. G-Ro was outside when Ky woke up, so she crawled in bed with G-Rue (and Poot).

Looks Like Trouble!

Kysa and the Monkey Bars

Kirby came over last weekend and we were in the kitchen talking while Kysa was out playing in the backyard with Kirby’s dog Poot.  We heard Kysa yelling and looked outside to see her hanging from the monkey bars.  Kirb bolted out the door to save her, but Kysa let go before Kirby could get to her and definitely wasn’t happy.  She hurt her right heel and limped for the next 24 hours or so.  She tells everyone, “I falled off the monkey buys” and then frowns.  (Kysa can’t really say her r’s yet!)  I haven’t seen her climb up the monkey bar platform since, that’s for sure.  I hope it can slow her down for awhile.

Ty And I figured that someone would get hurt on the built-in playset at this house sooner or later, I just didn’t think the first injury would be from my two year old trying to do the monkey bars by herself!

Guinness Book of World Records

Raleigh asked if I could call the Guinness Book of World Records because he and Olivia shot 4000 baskets over the weekend and Grandma Ro’s electronic basketball hoop game. He told me we needed to take a picture of it. Here it is, for the RECORD!

Sigh of Relief

Ty finished up a whirlwind month and summer has finally arrived for him as of Saturday night. Now he has the pleasure of helping watch the kids so I can put in a few more hours at the office over the next month. I thought I'd post a few pictures of the weekend activities at Grandma Ro's house.
Grandma Ro was nice enough to watch the kids on Saturday while I went to the Gold's Gym grand opening in Pocatello with my broker Guy Arnell. Ty was still in Boise with his basketball team until Saturday evening.

Olivia Shippen came with us to Paul and was a big help with the kids. Bug catching was a very interesting activity for all of us as we watched the spiders attack the flies in Grandma Ro's "Bug Zoo" contraption.
Of course as is tradition, anywhere there is a trampoline the kids have to jump on it. Even Ty got on to jump--and the poor guy fell on some bad luck, literally. He did a knee drop and the tramp ripped right in half. Ty's knees are pretty banged up because the tramp was on the gravel and not the grass. Luckily Raleigh had gotten off the trampoline just prior to Ty's misfortune. OUCH--you can see the aftermath!
We also had a little bat dive bomb us in the garage and then again outside the house. Grandma Ro and I ducked and covered, but little Kysa was curious and just thought that bat was a cute little friend. In typical Kysa fashion, she wasn't worried at all.

Kysa and Shay are constantly battling it out. I'm so thankful when they actually get along. For some reason they both thought it was hilarious to drink the water that was dripping from the hydrant. They were giggling like it was the funniest thing in the world and all of us got a kick out of it.

Little Shay is becoming more and more independent all the time, and even bossed me when I was driving her up to the shop on the 4 wheeler. She kept trying to push the start button while we were driving and then tried to push my hands away. SCARY! She is absolutely full of it, and still suffering from a serious case of bratitis. It doesn't help that she's teething. She has had a fever on and off this weekend, and I'm pretty sure it's becaue of those teeth coming in.
I really can't believe how many fun pictures I have from our short time in Paul, so I will have to post some more. Ty was doing his patented calf imitations to make the kids laugh in this picture of them on the 4 wheeler.

Jersey Donations to Uganda Basketball Camp

My former teammate Atim Otii from San Diego State is doing something really cool--she is in Uganda preparing for a humanitarian basketball camp in Gulu that she has organized. I would LOVE to be in a position to go to Uganda someday and help , but since I can't right now with my family responsibilities I spearheaded an effort to get some basketball jerseys donated from kids in Idaho Falls. Most of the jerseys came from the Skyline basketball camp with the exception of quite a few that came from a teacher who lives in Shelley. I am finally getting the jerseys RUSH delivered to Denver so they can make it on the June 26th flight with Atim's group that is headed to Uganda from the United States. Anyway, as I was organizing the jerseys tonight I was excited to find out that we have at least twelve sets of 7 or more MATCHING jerseys that are in really good shape, so I think Atim will be able to make good use of them. It was also a very strange coincidence that as I was organizing the jerseys Ty turned on a TLC documentary about a young boy from Uganda who had some life-saving surgery in the United States.

Here is a press release that I posted on my company blog about the jerseys that were donated:

The 2008 Skyline basketball camp attendees came through big for NAI Commerce One broker Kaly Shippen this week, donating 150 basketball jerseys that will be given to kids in a war-torn region of Uganda this summer in conjunction with humanitarian basketball camps being organized by Kaly's former San Diego State basketball teammate Atim Otii.

"It was encouraging to see what an enthusiastic response we got from the Skyline kids. They are so willing to help out when given the opportunity", Kaly said.
Skyline's star center Robert Edwards even donated a collector's item #23 Michael Jordan jersey that will be a treasured prize for any kid.
