Swim / Run Pictures with Alice Schenk

Alice and I were happy to have P.R. swims last Monday. A 14:52 for me and
16- something for Alice. High water = fast swims! These pictures were
after our run of the Spudman course that followed our 7 a.m. swim.

Rude Awakening

Today I learned that I desperately need to throw some hills into my running workouts. I did the 6th leg of the 40 mile To Bone and Back relay, and although it wasn't the hardest leg, the last mile (of 5) was totally uphill and I was very close to either puking or passing out when I handed off the "bone" to my teammate. I think I could have walked faster than I was running up portions of that last hill. I ran with Jessica and Eric Tomberlin and their friends. I met Jessica at the nursery at Apple Athletic Club. She's AWESOME!

After my run I picked up Kysa and Shay and brought them back to the finish line area at Summit Orthopedics where they had free hot dogs, ice cream cones, a jump thing, drinks, Great Harvest bread, etc. They were really cute and actually pretty obedient. Then we headed to Apple to go swimming with Ty, Raleigh, Preslee, and Gretchen. After being quite clingy initially, Shay made the big jump to swimming around by herself in her life jacket. She was being really daring, jumping in by herself and swimming to a noodle, putting her head under the water lots.

Ty took Raleigh golfing at Pinecrest in the evening along with his dad and Troy. I picked him up at the turn and Emmett and Ty played 18. Ty said he shot 83. When we got home Whitney Schetrumpf came over to babysit so I could go listen to my friend Michelle Ziel from Snake River landing sing at Hard Hat. I ended up sitting with Liza from SRL, Kerry Huggins from River City Weekly and her husband, and a young couple that Kerry knew through working at the beauty school. Kind of random, but it was fun. I really like Michelle and Liza. And Kerry for that matter.

Hikers and waterfalls

I thought these pictures of (my cousin) Tallan’s family were great and thought I’d post them here.  Here’s the text of the email I got from Tallan:

Hey fam,

Last weekend we went to Palouse Falls where a crazy kayaker set a new world record several months ago going over the falls. The you tube link is below.. as well as some pics of our little hikers!

it's too lost

I told Kysa she better go find her own toy puppy instead of playing with Shay’s.  She said, “Mom, I can’t.  It’s too lost.”

another occurence of "But the Priests"

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/john/12/

This whole chapter (John 12) is very good.  I found it by searching for the term “but the priests” that Damon talked about today on scriptures.lds.org:

I especially was struck by verses 42-50:

42 ¶ Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

44 ¶ Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Great doctrine here on priorities, the relationship between Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, and judgment.  Awesome stuff.

Quote from Damon's talk

"Nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father and how familiar His face is to us."

Alma Chapter 5

One of my favorite chapters of scripture: http://scriptures.lds.org/en/alma/5/9,26#9 I love the search function on http://scriptures.lds.org I just found some really cool scriptures as I was searching for some things Damon talked about in his mission report today.

Summer is officially here! We are in Paul tonight and I’m going swimming in the a.m. with Alice Schenk. The kids love staying at Grandma’s.

Here is a clip of Ty, Raleigh, and Kysa feeding the bass at Perry and Gail’s today:

on the road again

Kysa thought it was a good idea to cruise the neighborhood in nothing but
her underwear and her bike helmet. Safety first!

Monday report

Took Raleigh and the Ehardt kids golfing at Sandcreek today for the Idaho Falls junior golf day.  Couldn’t find a babysitter for Ky and the Shay monster, so I put helmets on them and off we went.  On the green of the 3rd hole Shay was getting cranky and bossy.  I pulled the pin out so the kids could putt and I set it down, and Shay said, "No, back in!"

I told her no, we had to wait for the kids to finish putting, and I stepped on the pole so she couldn't lift it up.  I was watching the kids putt, and next thing I knew, she was biting my leg.  Yikes!

We met Ty at Leo’s after our golfing excursion.  He had a golf outing this morning in Rexburg for work.  He left Leo’s to meet the All-American yards guys to get our sprinkler system working—YAY!  Raleigh had swimming club at 4 and I did laps.  We sat in the hot tub outside after his class. Ty mowed the backyard and watched the girls.  When we got home Ty took Raleig h over to Skyline to open up the gym for Troy Deane and they shot baskets for awhile.  Busy day!

RE: no water tonight

Mom, speaking of water problems, I don't think I told you that our water
heater broke last week. I had our handiman Brian fix it on Saturday, and
also get the water softener going while he was at it. He just replaced both
elements in the water heater and cleaned out about two gallons of SILT from
the bottom (from the hard water.) Now it's working awesome and we have lots
of hot water. It's a 64 gallon water heater so we should have had plenty of
hot water all along if it had been working efficiently. It would have cost
about 500 bucks to replace it, so we were happy to pay him for his time and
the cost of the elements. It is fairly new so hopefully it will work for a
long time now.

Kysa and Shay got in a cat fight before bed that ended in Shay biting Kysa's
cheek hard enough to make a noticeable mark, but not hard enough to break
the skin. Don't know what I'm gonna do with those two. The only good thing
about it was that it traumatized Kysa enough that she wanted to brush her
teeth and go straight to bed.

Went and played ball tonight at Skyline with Shalaina, Jessica Carlson,
Gretchen, and a few others. They have been playing at Shelley and Rigby,
but couldn't get gyms there so Gretchen opened up Skyline. Always a good
workout. Ty had to do some organizing of his basketball closet so he
brought the kids over and they ran around for awhile. Funny, they seem to
think it's a privilege to come over to Skyline.
